Quantity

Right now our numeracy work includes early concepts of multiplication.

The class has practised "skip" counting by 2, by 5, and by 10. The next step is to ensure an understanding of the quantities referred to by the numbers being listed. 

The children pictured were given a white-board with an equation to complete. The children are showing their understanding of quantities by spreading out sets of hexagons.

Laying out the objects this way gives the children a sense of quantity that they may not fully understand when they simply skip count by memory.
