We'll soon start a long-term cross-curricular project leading to the creation of a kamishibai "theatre" presentation, like that watched by the children in this picture.

Throughout the creation process the class will be involved in planning and writing about the ways in which we might describe peace.
Since we will want imagery to accompany our writing, we'll also consider the ways peace might be visualized through rhythmic graphic patterns.
Step 1
We'll read the book What Does Peace Feel Like? to help us think about how we each think about peace.

Step 2
We'll create our own "mind maps" showing the things we think about
when we think of peacefulness.
One of the pictures shown above is a mind-map or graphic organizer.

Step 3
In math time we'll create patterns using colours and geometric forms that give a look that is peaceful (not all excited).
These will be used as abstract backgrounds.
Step 4
We'll each have a chance to keyboard our ideas about what peace is.
These will be printed on clear plastic pages and we'll add drawings that support the words.
We'll then attach the words to the unique backgrounds.
Each page will represent a unique scene for our Kamishibai theatre.
